The Two Fatalities Revealed in the Providence Campus Attack as Police Persist in Search for Killer.

Two students who died in Saturday’s mass shooting on the university campus were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their shooter persisted following the release by local law enforcement of the single suspect of interest in the case.

Tributes for Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, per the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a service on Sunday.

Cook was second-in-command of Brown’s chapter of the campus GOP group, according to the organization. The White House press secretary also expressed sympathies online, remarking: “It's indescribable. Keeping in mind her family and friends, particularly her mother and father.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other person killed was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, a citizen of Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the prestigious university, family members said.

His name was confirmed by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of becoming a neurosurgeon and helping people,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a tribute.

The Shooting Incident

An additional nine individuals were hurt in the weekend shooting in the school of engineering of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.

Officials stated by the end of Sunday that a man aged 24 detained in a raid at a hotel about approximately 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was released from custody.

“A perpetrator remains free,” said the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you must reassess and go in another, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last day or so.”
